  • Description
  • Running Duck Merlot red wine from the Western Cape of South Africa. Made from organic and Fair Trade grapes, it is also sulphur and preservative free and is produced with no compromises on ethics or production values.

This easy drinking, smooth Merlot is a guaranteed crowd pleaser as it is not just vegan friendly and Fairtrade but also, more importantly, extremely delicious.

With earthy aromas of plums, blackcurrants, red cherries and redcurrant and subtle plum and black cherry flavours, it has a smooth mouth feel and a long, warming finish.

Running Duck is produced by Stellar Organics, one of South Africa's largest organic wine producers whose farms are kept and managed in as natural a state as possible. They are the leading ethical wine brand in the UK and the world's top producers of no added sulphur wines.

Both organic and fairtrade accredited, this label was named after seeing Stellar’s Indian Runners ducks patrolling the vineyards, eating insects and snails, protecting the vines in the most eco friendly way.

    What makes wine vegan
Vegan wines are made without using any animal products. In wine making, the agents used in the fining process have to be removed and with conventional wines egg whites or milk protein are frequently used to do this. Tiny traces of the animal product can be absorbed, thus making it non-vegan.
With vegan wines, the winemakers either leave the particles to sink naturally to the bottom of the wine, or use non-animal fining products usually bentonite, a form of clay or pea protein.
